Venture to the top of the Pyhä-Luosto National Park and dig for your own lucky amethyst while taking in breathtaking views of the surrounding nature.

The Luoston amethyst mine, located 1.5h from Rovaniemi, offers one of the most unique experiences in Finland. Unlike stereotypical mines, there is no big machinery present here. Instead, mining has always been done by hand with the use of simple tools, as to protect the surrounding nature reserve. You will be guided along a 2.5km hiking trail to the top of the Lampivaara hill, where at the top a 200 million year old amethyst deposit lays exposed. While taking in the astonishing views, a fascinating story will teach you everything you want to know about this magical gem. Armed with this knowledge, you are ready to start digging for your very own amethysts, which you are allowed to take home for free!
